RALEIGH, NC—Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled Patrick Dwyer from Albany of the AHL. In a separate move, the River Rats loaned defenseman Benn Olson to the ECHL’s Florida Everblades.
Dwyer, 26, has totaled nine goals and six assists (15 points) in 19 games with Albany this season. He saw his first NHL action during the 2008-09 season for the Hurricanes, scoring his first NHL goal and playing a total of 13 regular-season games. The Spokane, WA, native also played in two Stanley Cup playoff games for Carolina, notching one assist. Dwyer (5”11, 175 lbs.) originally signed with the Hurricanes as a free agent in July 2006, and inked a new one-year contract with Carolina on July 1, 2009.
Olson, 22, has totaled 21 penalty minutes in nine games with Albany this season. The Port McNeil, BC native recorded four assists and 140 penalty minutes during the 2008-09 season in 36 games with Albany. Olson (6’4”, 215 lbs.) signed a one-year AHL contract on September 10, 2009.
Albany plays two road games this weekend, beginning on Friday, November 20th against the Manchester Monarchs at 7:30 p.m. The River Rats then head to Binghamton for a 7:05 faceoff with the Senators on Saturday, November21st.
