Defenseman Available To Make NHL Tonight; Kaberle Placed On IR

RALEIGH, NC - Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled defenseman Bryan Rodney from Albany of the American Hockey League (AHL). The Hurricanes have placed defenseman Frantisek Kaberle on injured reserve with a leg injury.

Rodney, 24, has yet to make his NHL debut, and will be available for the Hurricanes’ game tonight in Philadelphia. He has totaled eight assists in 17 games with Albany this season, after signing a free agent contract with the Hurricanes on May 12, 2008. The London, Ont., native split the 2007-08 season between the ECHL and the AHL, joining Albany in December when the River Rats were left shorthanded because of a flu bug. Rodney went on to notch 15 points (4g, 11a) in 42 regular season games for Albany and led all River Rats skaters with six points (3g, 3a) in seven playoff games. In 67 career AHL games with Hartford and Albany, Rodney has earned 26 points (5g, 21a) and totaled 36 penalty minutes.

Albany will complete a three-game road stretch on Friday, December 12th as they head to New Hampshire for a 7:30 pm face off against the Manchester Monarchs at Verizon Wireless Arena. The River Rats next home game is set for Saturday, December 13th as they host the Binghamton Senators for a 7:00 pm face off at the Times Union Center.
